Artist Overview

I am a Berkshire based self-taught artist working primarily in charcoal and oils. My practice explores the emotional relationship between the human experience and the natural world, with a particular focus on atmosphere, movement and light.

My charcoal landscapes are largely imagined rather than depictions of specific places. I use landscape as a visual language to explore states of mind and personal experience, moving through themes of chaos, grief, healing and renewal.

Charcoal is central to my process because of its immediacy and dramatic tonal range. I build each work through layered marks, erasure and texture, allowing the image to develop intuitively. Rather than pursuing precise representation, I am interested in creating a sense of place that feels emotional and immersive.

Alongside landscape, I work with portraiture (using both charcoal and oil paints) , exploring the character and presence of the sitter through both charcoal and oil.

My work has been exhibited in group exhibitions across the UK, including exhibitions at the Mall Galleries, London, Victoria Art Gallery, Bath, and the University of Reading. My charcoal landscapes have received recognition through the Marie Dyson Award and other exhibition awards. Many of my works have been sold via galleries and private collectors.
